My favorite part in Oz the Great and Powerful is when it switches from black and white to color as the balloon enters Oz and lands among all the bright and gorgeous flowers. I don’t know if it is just my eyes changing as the movie switches to color, but the flowers are so vibrant as he is exploring the Land of Oz!

Since I won’t ever have the chance of visiting Oz, I made my own bright flowers. I created them using coffee filters, packing paper, and my hot glue gun.

Fold the coffee filters in to fourths and add a dab of hot glue to keep folded. Glue onto a coffee filter in layers like this.

SONY DSC Then scrunch it up. This was my favorite part and I think it looks like a peony.

SONY DSC The blue and purple flowers were made by folding the packing paper in half and cutting points long the top.

SONY DSC Then I rolled it up and twisted it like so.

SONY DSC The yellow flower was made by cutting and gluing the petals like so.

SONY DSC After I had the flowers, leaves, and flower centers created, I headed outside with a variety of spray paint and a box.

SONY DSC I took turns painting the pieces and added a couple colors for added wow. Once they had dried I took them back inside and used my glue gun to put them all together. Then added them to the corner of our chalkboard. I couldn’t resist adding the hot air balloon from the scene either.

The quote is from the movie, and was said in an exchange between the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Have you seen Oz? Did you love the flowers too, or am I just a plant nerd (yes, yes I am!) You can pick up your own copy of Oz the Great and Powerful in the Blu-ray Combo Pack on June 11th!
